The Dairy

Cooking

At first glance the kitchen in The Dairy looks just like The Byre. It is the same bespoke pippy oak kitchen from Grove House Furniture of Thirsk with some additional features to meet the needs of all our guests.

For instance, The Byre has an integrated cupboard under the sink and the hob. In The Dairy, they both look very much the same. Except as you can see on the Accessibility page, these cupboards can easily be pulled out and removed ready for the arrival of a wheelchair-based guest who wishes to use these facilities. This is one of the best examples in The Dairy (more to come!) where we aim to provide facilities of all our guests, according to their needs. As you can see the wall cupboards may not appear very different in terms of height but two of them contain integrated shelves to be pulled down to a lower level when needed - whether our guest is in a wheelchair or maybe just can't reach.  The microwave and oven are alongside each other rather than above each other. Both have side opening doors and also both have stainless steel pull-out surfaces immediately underneath to place hot ovenware. There is also an additional pull-out working surface for food preparation too. Take a look at the photos on the Accessibility page to see all of these facilities, which are useful for many of our guests.

This beautifully spacious kitchen with black star galaxy granite worktops also has the same high quality Bosch cooking/cleaning appliances as our other cottages - oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Even the two oak trays are built into the kitchen units. The kitchen is once again extremely well-equipped with a vast array of ovenware, crockery, cutlery and glassware for two people to use over a couple of days, without having to wash up (or even start the dishwasher)! That is a holiday in itself! There are many useful gadgets such as a steamer, scales and slow cooker and not forgetting those little things such as the cling film and aluminium foil.

Dining

The dining area is even more spacious than The Byre providing the same table and chairs. You can enjoy breakfast for two against the feature local stone wall and then extend the table to sear four adults for dinner. So why not bring your friends on holiday and they stay in The Byre? You each have your own privacy and can come together in The Dairy to dine and lounge in ample space.  The flooring is seamless with the oak lounge flooring, kitchen and bedroom as it is a Karndean limestone floor.

Adjacent to the dining area is a bookcase containing an array of reading material for ideas for walks, cycling, other activities and getting to know more about the Yorkshire Dales.  Here you will find the (EE/Orange) mobile phone available for you to use if the service is not very good on your own mobile. There is an honesty box purely to cover the cost of the calls you make.

The facilities and services in all rooms meet the National Accessible Standards M3, V1, H1. For instance, you may not notice that all the light and socket switches are in polished chrome which contrast beautifully with the cream walls and solid oak skirting - where beauty supports accessibility! There are ample sockets throughout the cottage including USB points for charging your mobile phone. We would be delighted to discuss your own requirements to ensure you enjoy your holiday stay at The Dairy. Where guests do not need these requirements as you can see by the photos on the Accessibility page, they are just not visible. They are provided when you need them.
