Choices, choices!

Below are a few pointers to help you choose which is the cottage that best suits your needs. These descriptions compare Inglenook Cottage, The Byre and The Dairy. The Dairy is very similar to The Byre in all aspects except that it is on the ground floor only and also provides accessibility for mobility, visual and hearing impairments. See The Dairy & Accessibility pages for more information. If you have any queries or specific requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss.

Still cannot choose?

After reading below and you still cannot decide which cottage to choose, do what our guests Peter & Irene Smith of Weymouth did to resolve the problem. After having stayed at The Byre and Inglenook, they couldn't decide which cottage to stay in for a third visit in 2017. So they tossed a coin! We were delighted to welcome them back to Inglenook in June 2017 and then they completed the trilogy by staying at The Dairy, once it was completed in 2018!

What is the same with each cottage?

  • 5 Star Gold
  • Private parking
  • Same facilities at all cottages with varying levels of accessibility
  • Super king size (6') bed in master bedrooms. In addition, The Dairy bedroom is a zip/link so it can be split into 2 x single beds - see the photos in each cottage.
  • All mattress are sprung-based mattresses with 6,700 or 7,200 springs to provide support and cocoon you at the same time.
  • All cottages have duck down duvets (and allergy-free on request). All single beds have double duvets
  • Same price for either The Byre or The Dairy for the same dates.
  • All cottages are no smoking
  • Same level of service from the Cottage in the Dales team

What are the differences?

  • Location - The cottages are a mile apart. Inglenook Cottage is in West Burton, Wensleydale - a beautiful village with a number of amenities (pub, village shop, village hall, butcher, methodist chapel, village green and waterfall). The Byre and The Dairy are in the grounds of Eastburn Farmhouse in Newbiggin, Bishopdale - a hamlet of houses with a pub being the only immediate amenity.

  • Sleep - Inglenook sleeps 4 adults in 2 bedrooms (master and twin). The Byre and The Dairy each spaciously sleeps 2 adults in 1 bedroom. The Dairy bed can be either a 6' master bed or split as two separate single 3' beds.
  • Bathroom - The bathroom is a standard size in Inglenook and twice the size in The Byre. One bathroom per cottage. The toilet in each cottage is upstairs, not downstairs. Inglenook bathroom has a shower over the bath. The Byre has a double ended bath and separate walk-in shower. The Dairy will have a fully accessible wet room.
  • Fires - There is an open fire at Inglenook and log burning stove at both The Byre and The Dairy. All have oil fired central heating, fully controllable in all rooms.
  • Dining - Inglenook seats four people. The Byre seats two people. The Dairy can seat either two people or extended to four people for visiting friends.
  • Lounge - Inglenook seats five people. The Byre seats three people. The Dairy seats four people.
  • Gardens - There is an elevated private garden (ie up steps) at Inglenook. There is a courtyard garden (on the same level) at both The Byre and The Dairy leading to the half acre garden of the Farmhouse that can be used by all our guests.
  • Accessibility - All cottages are accredited to National Accessibility Standards (NAS). Inglenook Cottage and The Byre have M1, V1 and H1 accessibility. The Dairy has M3, V1 and H1 accessibility. See the accessibility page on what this means for you.
  • Pets - Sorry but no pets are accepted at Inglenook Cottage or The Byre. Trained assistance dogs only are accepted at The Dairy.
