What Our Guests Say...
Another lovely stay at The Byre! The garden was glorious , so peaceful and relaxing. Thank you again Diane and Andrew for the warm welcome and ensuring all our needs were met.
The June heatwave 2026 - there was nowhere we would rather have been than up here in Bishopdale. What luck to have booked this time and to have been out of the horrendous heat of the south east. The weather here has been glorious and just right. We visited our favourite haunts round Cray, Arncliffe, Yockenthwaite, Hawes and Semerwater. It was such a pleasure to be outside all the time immersed in nature. Coats, jumpers and trousers all remained unworn. Then each day to return to the luxury and comfort of The Byre was just perfect. Every room is a joy to be in. Andrew and Diane could not be kinder, helpful or more thoughtful hosts. It’s wonderful to stay somewhere privately owned, and by people who really do care about their guests. And the garden is paradise. Thank you Diane and Andrew for everything.
We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage, Thanks Diane and Andrew you have thought of everything anyone would need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We have loved the peace and quiet, bird song and beautiful garden.
The Byre never disappoints. We have thoroughly enjoyed yet another stay,. Thanks again Diane and Andrew.
Yet again, a wonderful welcome and marvellous stay. We love our time here, and always look forward to returning, It is difficult to express in word alone, how amazing both of the cottages are, along with the gardens, the area and above all, the welcome of both Diane and Andrew. It has to be experienced, Highlights have been meals at the Wensleydale Heifer, the Sandpiper Inn, and for the more traditional pub meal, but nevertheless fabulous ambience, the Street Head Inn. The Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park was well worth the visit, all of the seasonal rododendrons were fully in flower, which set the scene wonderfully. Back next year!

Another wonderful stay at our second home. We did some of the same walks and regular stop at Campbell's in Leyburn, and then a little further afield with visits to the Minster in York, Castle Howard and a lovely lazy lunch at the Star Inn at Harome. Lovely setting and wonderful foods you would expect from a Michelin recommended establishment. More locally, for those of you who haven't experienced the sheepdog demos just outside Hawes - you must! A very enjoyable hour or so watching the dogs 'do their thing'. Thanks again to our wonderful hosts - Diane and Andrew. See you next year!
Anther wonderful stay in your very comfortable cottage. We have enjoyed sitting in your beautiful garden. It's so colourful. Loved listening to the birds and watching the robot mower! Thank you Diane and Andrew for everything you do to make our stay so memorable. Thanks to Rachel too. Can't wait until next next time. Best wishes from us both.
Great to see Diane and Andrew again after meeting in Ulusaba last November. The Dales are different to South Africa, but very beautiful and a fabulous place. We absolutely loved this cottage. Unfortunately is was only for one week. Thank you so much for the warm welcome and the excellent hospitality. We are looking forward to return.

Second stay in The Byre - much needed peaceful holiday. It was so good to return - enjoyed Diane and Andrew's hospitality - thank you very much. Excellent Easter Sunday, fab food at Swinton Park Hotel and enjoyed fabulous Mainsgill Farmshop once again. Sunny days with G&Ts in the garden - looking forward to return in October!
Another lovely stay in our favourite cottage and can't wait to come back.
Returning guests but now to The Byre. Just as lovely and comfortable as The Dairy & Inglenook. Real home from home. Already booked for 2027 and 2028. Thank you to Diane and Andrew for another fabulous break
The Howarths know how to deliver on 5 star getaways! Amazing time and stay with the best of friends. Made even better with an unreal feed from Andrew himself - the wine sealed the deal!
Amazing break - everything through out so carefully to provide every comfort. Quiet, peaceful - a real sanctuary. Hope we can return.
