West Burton, Wensleydale
Sleeps 4 (+ cot)
Inglenook Cottage sits proudly, near West Burton village green. With mesmerising garden views to the hills, this 18th century Grade II listed cottage exudes charm & character, to enjoy an idyllic break all year round.
With walks from the doorstep, Inglenook Cottage offers luxury accommodation with detailed touches and country charm including mullioned windows, inglenook fireplace with log burning stove, exposed beams and a bespoke oak kitchen. Antique furniture, crisp bedlinen and a super-kind bedstead create a perfect ambience. Private parking leads to a traditional dry-stone walled patio garden with hillside views.
"It is the most beautiful village in England", James Herriot said of West Burton, Wensleydale. Also painted by Turner, being in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, West Burton is largely untouched by the passage of time. With a waterfall and no through road in the village, Inglenook Cottage offers the opportunity for couples, friends and families to enjoy a peaceful, luxury break exploring this beautiful countryside.

Had a lovely bank holiday weekend with 4 full days of sunny weather (for a change!). Cottage is immaculate and far bigger on the inside than the outside would suggest. Lovely fixtures and fittings and everything you could possibly want is provided (and some!). Recommend walking Malham Cover to Gordale Scar to Janet's Foss and back to Malham. Also the Ingleton Waterfall Trail is superb, followed by White Scar Cave. Food & service at the local pub is really good. Lovely host welcome from Andrew & Diane - 5* service.

Another fantastic stay in what we consider to be the best holiday cottage in the UK. Diane has been brilliant as usual and has gone to extraordinary lengths to make everything Covid-Safe. The usual spotless nature of Inglenook has been taken to another level and, as a couple in a risk category, we both felt very secure indeed. We've had pretty decent weather and beautiful West Burton has looked great. The pub is open (yey!) and has good social distancing measures in place. Took advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and had an excellent lunch at the Sandpiper Inn in Leyburn. Highly recommended but note the scheme only operates on a Wednesday here. Sad to be leaving but we'll be back!

Our first return to Inglenook since March 2008! It still retains all the charm and comfort we first experienced. We love the cottage, the village, the Dales. We shall not leave it so long for our next visit. Mind you, we are already booked for The Dairy too! This was our first break since early 2020 BC (before Covid) and was so needed. Although the weather was changeable, we had our walks and days out, and the warmth of this wonderful cottage to return to. Thanks to Diane & Andrew xx

Another great week in the Dales. We managed to try some different things on our fifth stay! The Easter trail at Newby Hall was great fun for Megan (age 4) and the walk around Constable Burton gardens was great too. The Big Sheep Little Cow farm in Bedale is well worth a visit with children. A new find for us this time was the C.B. Inn in Arkengarthdale - lovely lunch at a great price. Inglenook Cottage was as good as ever. Roll on October half term!!

Thank you Diane, Andrew and Rachel for a fabulous stay at Inglenook. The cottage is set in a beautiful location, extremely comfortable, wonderfully equipped to the last detail and professionally and faultlessly presented on arrival. Just follow any of Diane's recommendations for visits, shopping, eating out - you will have a splendid and enjoyable holiday. A personal recommendation is to finish with lunch at the Wensleydale Heifer - excellent and more relaxed at lunch time. The whole experience is far from customer service. Superb accommodation as expected, having already stayed at The Byre. Log fire was perfect for dark January nights. Food at White Lion was excellent - see you in May!

Spent a lot of time in this amazing (6 *+++) cottage due to awful weather. Blessing in disguise, it was the perfect holiday hideaway. Stunning village. Thank you Diane x

Another splendid holiday. Highlights would include walking to the top of the hill facing the lounge and admiring the view back on West Burton. Also fantastic views off the route between Reeth and Askrigg. Thank you again!

Thrilled to be the first arrivals in 2021 following lockdown Stayed in The Byre twice last year so knew that Inglenook would be wonderful in every respect. We've had a lovely week in Inglenook which certainly lived up to its reputation. West Burton is a gorgeous village. Highlights included red squirrel watching in Snaizeholme (near Hawes), primroses on the low level Muker to Keld path, the historic church at Wensley and the mobile fish & chip van on (Wednesday 19.50-20.15). Many thanks to the Howarths

Another relaxing week at Inglenook, just what we needed. The cottage has everything we needed and is very comfortable, especially the beds. Although the weather turned wet, the log fire helped us forget this. See you next year!! Thanks for the apples - sorry we had no room to take them all.

Congratulations to Diane & Andrew on 11 wonderful years. We cannot think of a better place to stay. Highlights this time included snowman building on Easter Monday and the changing views with all the different weather we have experienced! Aysgarth Falls was amazing. We can't wait to return.

My husband and I first came to Diane & Andrew's cottages back in 2010, and have come back every year since. It became our second home. Unfortunately my husband died in June, so this visit was to scatter his ashes at the waterfall, which he loved to visit. I still hope to visit in the future. Thanks again Diane & Andrew for being two of the nicest people to come into our lives x

We have been visiting the Dales since the start of the eighties, it never fails to deliver. Our third stay with Cottage in the Dales in three different properties all offering exceptional quality, immaculate accommodation. Diane and her team really have it nailed - the certificates on the staircase wall bear testament to that. It goes without saying - we will be back!

Another wonderful stay in beautiful West Burton and the fantastic Inglenook Cottage. The property was immaculate as always with every conceivable guest requirement covered. The pre-stay communication from Diane was excellent as always - you feel that each email is personal to you rather than some mass produced template favoured by other companies. Weather was mixed to say the least, but we managed to squeeze in several new things such as the gardens at Constable Burton (nice way to spend an hour or so), Tennants at Leyburn (decent cafe and restaurant), Campbells at Leyburn (how have we missed this wonderful food emporium previusly!?), the Dales Countryside Museum at Hawes (interesting couple of hours) and the delightful has how round own to Kettlewell. Good food too at the Aysgarth Falls Hotel and SImonstone Hall and of course a good time to be had at the Fox & Hounds which following our stay is once again in profit for the year. On our last night they literally ran out of Pinot Grigio - guilty as charged your honour!

Another perfect Christmas. Again the cottage has been most comfortable, clean & welcoming - all we could ask for at Christmas. Diane & Andrew have been the perfect hosts. Their various tourist awards are most deserved, as their effort and care in providing 5 star accommodation & service cannot be faulted.

Another wonderful visit to glorious West Burton. James Herriot called it the most beautiful village in the Dales and we agree. And when you have a property as immaculately presented as Inglenook to stay in, it's a match made in heaven. There was the usual warm and friendly welcome from Diane, who continues to provide an excellent service, having thought about every conceivable extra. We were fortunate with the weather and took full advantage of the garden - the views of Pen Hill as the light changes through the day are mesmerising. We will be back!

Another wonderful stay, our 4th, in beautiful Inglenook. Gets better every time! Recommend Wensleydale Cheese factory, lovely autumn colours at Thorp Perrow and cycling the Swale Trail from Reeth to Gunnerside. Make sure you meet Douglas the St Bernard at King's Head! Amazing fish & chips from the van on Wednesday after 'trick or treating' round the village. Overall a great stay at Inglenook and hope to be back soon!! PS. Thank you so much Diane and Andrew for making this cottage so special!

We have enjoyed a fabulous weekend here at Inglenook Cottage. Superb weather for getting out and about to enjoy the Dales. We have never found a cottage to be so comfortable and well equipped. Thank you! PS. We can recommend the Sunday roast at the Kings Head in Kettlewell. The rest of the menu also looked lovely. A very busy pub so best to book in advance.
